My love of drawing as a child led on to draughting as an adult. With a young family I worked and tutored for many years in cake decorating, receiving several awards both locally and nationally. I later took up painting in watercolours, but was drawn to the vibrancy of acrylics. These also allowed me to use the technique of building up layers of transparent paint which give depth and mood to paintings. I paint on both watercolour paper and canvas. Painting in a somewhat illustration style I have covered a wide range of subject matter over the years but have always been drawn to old buildings. These old structures all have a story to tell and have seen much of life through passing generations. To emphasize the character of these buildings I have removed surrounding distracting features and placed them in barren open spaces. I would like to think these old buildings would provide the viewer with thoughts of who lived or worked in them and the lives they led. Most of these structures are in the South Island, the majority in Canterbury. We have travelled many a mile to find one that has the right ‘feel’ to it. I have tutored in both drawing and painting and been a partner in a studio/gallery for a few years. My paintings hang in private collections both in New Zealand and overseas.
