Lindsay JefferisShow current work by this artist | Show sold work by this artist I have pondered the question of how to describe myself and my work. I have looked at resumes of artists using ethereal descriptions and rapidly decided I was nothing like that. I am a realist. I paint what I see in my mind and attempt to bring out the moods and depths of a subject to show that. It is not photo realism. I will shift and change a layout to stress what is important to me. While any painting will be recognizable as being a particular location, none could be superimposed on that subject - some are close and others vastly altered. I use composition and lighting to give depth and to emphasise as I want. I largely avoid the picture postcards; rather finding images in everyday scenes, to which I often return several times to find the best lighting and viewpoint. I aim to bring out the depth and feeling of a landscape or the feeling of the history of an old building. There must be some mood and feeling there, rather than simply a pretty picture. Different viewers relate to totally different paintings, but there is something of me in all of them.
