Christine KingShow current work by this artist | Show sold work by this artist Christine lives & works from her Christchurch home studio. Largely self-taught she became a full-time painter in 1993. She exhibits her work in solo and group exhibitions throughout New Zealand and has also exhibited in London.
Christine's style is drawn from a blend of imagination combined with her observations of society. The often highly stylised people in her paintings are depicted either as individuals, or more frequently in groups in a range of social situations. Her work is inspired by the elegance of the 1930's through to the trends of the present day.
While she is known for her striking use of colour and her depictions of powerful women, the flowing form of the stylised nude figure in charcoal, or muted tones, is sometimes the focus of her work.
Music, usually jazz, inspires Christine to create the appropriate mood for her compositions as she develops her ideas from sketches to canvas.
Artworks are held in private collections throughout New Zealand, Australia, Asia, North America and Europe.
