Maurice Middleditch was born and educated in Timaru and currently lives Bannockburn, Central Otago. His first formal tuition was from Ansley Manson, art teacher in Timaru. His interest has been mainly in landscape work and is reflected in his success in the “Keliher” Art Exhibitions of 1974 and 1977 where he was “highly commended” for his work. Since 1988 some of his specialist work has been in large-scale murals in Queenstown and Canterbury, notably at the Canterbury Museum, Mt Cavendish Gondola and the International Antarctic Centre. Awards: February 2004 Maurice was commissioned to paint Milford Sound for the Honorable Jim Bolger. April 2004 Winner of the Viewer’s Choice Wanaka Easter Exhibition. October 2004 Winner Art Award at the South Canterbury Art Society. November 2004 Merit Award by John Badcock at the Queenstown Art Society. December 2004 Merit Award at Southland Art Society Inc. May 2005 Runner up at the Peters Doig Marlborough Art Awards. June 2005 Winner Invercargill Licensing Trust Award. April 2006 Winner Viewer’s Choice at the Wanaka Easter Exhibition. April 2006 Winner best local painter award Arrowtown Autumn Festival. May 2007 Third prize Peters Doig Marlborough Art Awards. June 2007 Second prize, Invercargill Licensing Trust Art Award.
