Soren BergerShow current work by this artist | Show sold work by this artist Soren has been a woodturning artist for 30 years. He is very well known throughout the world with his pieces featured in many journals, publications and books. Each year Soren is invited to America to demonstrate woodturning at big national symposiums, top art and craft schools and woodturning clubs. His focus is centred on the structure and physical beauty of wood. His aim is to expose to the viewer this natural beauty that is produced by nature and is present in all the trees around us. The lamp shades and hats are made from beautiful trees sourced from our garden city of Christchurch. They include Silver birch, Willow, Poplar, Aspen, Walnut and many others. Most of the trees he uses have been felled by storms and are not valued until made into these beautiful objects that show their grain, strength, translucency and individuality. The hats and shades are hand turned from large blocks of specially selected wood to a wall thickness of only 1.5 to 3 millimetres, yet they are flexible and very Strong. Their translucency gives the wow factor when lit from within. These pieces will give you a picture of the 20 to 40 years of growth with all the good years, the struggle and the droughts, captured for your enjoyment and wonder. Willow LampBy Soren Berger
