Janie PorterShow current work by this artist | Show sold work by this artist Janie is a New Zealander who was born in 1952 in Hastings, England. From a very early age she was passionate about art. While still at high school she joined the local art college and studied painting and pottery. She came to live in Christchurch in 1978. She was greatly helped and influenced first by art teacher Gordon Sharp and later by her friendship with Galina Kim. In the nineties, she stopped teaching art as a private tutor to concentrate full-time on painting. Living two minutes from the Pacific Ocean, “between the estuary and the sea” deeply influences her life. Aquatic birds and the sea, conservation, New Zealand landscape, people and music are her great painting loves, which she explores while looking for the connections of who we are and where we live. In 2005, Janie spent four months at the University of Fine Arts in Hanoi where she received a certificate of excellence. Apart from New Zealand, Janie has exhibited in galleries in the U.K. and Spain. Her work is in private collections in several countries around the world.
